Oklahoma Highway Patrol finds nearly 20 cars underwater near Port of Catoosa

INOLA, Okla. - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol will continue trying to pull several vehicles from the McClellan-Kerr Navigation Channel Tuesday.

Troopers with the Marine Enforcement Division found the vehicles while working with new sonar side-scan systems.

OHP Capt. George Brown tells 2NEWS that divers have counted at least 17 cars in one pile so far.

"It's interesting to know that they're down there," Brown said.

Investigators are unaware of how the cars landed in the water, nearly 20 feet deep.

"We don't know what we're looking at," said Brown. "It may lead to solving a crime."

Brown said it is possible more vehicles could be found later. Crews are expected to use a barge and other technology to bring them to the surface.
