TULSA - Be on the lookout for a new trash cart Tulsans, the city of Tulsa says.
Beginning Monday, sanitation crews will be delivering the 245,000 new bins to city residents. The process should take 12 weeks, but residents are encouraged to use their receptacles as soon as they receive them.
Crews will deliver to 900 homes per day, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Tulsa's previous trash contract expired June 30. The new contract with NewSolutions begins October 1.
But in the first week of the transition, the city has received around 600 complaints for missed collections.
About 60 percent of the complaints have been from backyard customers, so to avoid further confusion crews are spray painting areas to mark the customers.
Customers can help crews adjust to new routes by double checking their collection day and ensuring trash is at the curb by 6 a.m.
"It's a little earlier or a little later than what they've been used to for many years -- and we understand it's a big change for everybody," said NewSolutions spokesman Gary Percefull.
