Fire officials say neighbors called 911 after hearing a loud boom, then went to wake up the two women inside the burning house near 5th Street and Lewis Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames billowing from the roof.
Investigators believe a lightning strike likely started the fire.
The two women and several dogs escaped the house safely and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
