OKMULGEE, Okla. - An effort to override Muscogee (Creek) Nation Chief George Tiger's veto of a resolution opposing the Kialegee Tribal Town casino in Broken Arrow failed during a National Council meeting Saturday.
Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council Speaker Sam Alexander said the measure to override the chief's veto failed by two votes, 10-5. Two members of the tribal council were absent.
Twelve votes were needed to override the chief's veto, Alexander said.
The National Council passed a resolution in March opposing the Red Clay Casino being built in Broken Arrow by the Kialgee Tribal Town.
The casino is set to open this spring.
