Muskogee War Memorial gaining new 'Veteran's Walk' thanks to City of Muskogee Foundation grant

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - The Muskogee War Memorial is getting a facelift.

The park plans to replace the existing "Walk of Honor" monument with a new "Veteran's Walk."

The new Veterans Walk will be located at the front entrance of the museum grounds and feature 24 in letters crafted from pieces of military history.  Bronze emblems will be featured on the front of the monument representing each of the armed services.

The back court yard is designed to be a venue for a host of memorial and presentation events.  A bronze relief of the POW/MIA emblem will grace the back wall of the courtyard just above the Flag Internment Vault.

The Flag Internment Vault will be a special location for flag retirement ceremonies.

The court yard will be paved with engraved brick featuring servicemen and women from the United States Services.

The entire memorial will be surrounded with red, white and blue azalea’s to honor our American colors, and the Muskogee’s azalea tradition.

A grant from the City of Muskogee Foundation will help pay for the new monument.

Organizers are also looking for sponsors.
