Muskogee police officer arrested, accused of kidnapping, forced sex at gunpoint

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - A  Muskogee police officer, currently on administrative leave, was arrested on Thursday morning after he allegedly forced an estranged love interest to have sex with him.

Muskogee County deputies arrested Mark Ridley after they say he rammed the woman's car off the road, then forced her to drive to a residence, where he forced her to perform oral sex.

Deputies said Ridley also threatened the woman with a gun.

2NEWS was there as Ridley appeared before a judge via video on Thursday afternoon for his arrangement.

Wearing an orange jail jumpsuit and looking down often, Ridley repeatedly answered "Yes, sir" and "No, sir" to questions asked by the judge.

Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Moore requested Ridley be held without bond.

Moore told the judge the victim believed Ridley would kill her if he were released from custody.

Moore also informed the judge that Ridley attempted to commit suicide in his jail cell hours before his court appearance.

The judge granted the request to hold Ridley without bond.

Court records show the woman filed two protective orders against Ridley: one in December and another Wednesday, the day of the alleged assault.

The charges Ridley is facing include kidnapping, sodomy and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to authorities.

The case will be handled by the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

Moore said it is to avoid any "appearance of impropriety."

"So there won't be any accusations that either we were too harsh or not harsh enough. We just want the right thing to happen in the case," Moore said.

Delaware County is also tasked with investigating the incident that led to Ridley's suspension last year.

Family members of Ridley declined to comment on the matter.

Ridley is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday afternoon for a docket sounding.
