Muskogee police investigate deadly shooting early Thursday; suspect in custody

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - Police have arrested the suspect involved in a shooting Thursday morning in Muskogee.

Keenen Major, 17, was arrested on complaint of first degree murder.

Police say Major will be charged as an adult in the case.

Police responded to 28th and West Okmulgee Street where the victim, 18-year-old Dangelo Grayson, was found dead in his car.

Officers were notified just after 6 a.m. that a shooting occurred in a nearby alley.

Lynn Turner, who lives next door to the shooting scene, says she thought she was hearing firecrackers Thursday morning.

"Early this morning, policeman came to the door and wanted to know if I'd heard anything or seen anything and I really hadn't. Just the fireworks that I thought I'd heard,' she said.

No motive has been determined.

"Believe they were acquainted. However what their relationship is, I don't know," said Cpl. Michael Mahan with the Muskogee Police Department.

Turner says that while this kind of violence has never occurred this close to her home in her eight years living on West Okmulgee Street, she isn't surprised.

"I see too much violence around here every day, and when you pick up the paper, that all you see and hear about," she said. "It's scary. There's too many kids with guns and too much violence going on."

Mahan says this is the city's fifth homicide of 2014. According to Mahan, there were six homicides in 2011 and one in each 2012 and 2013.

Major will be charged an adult in the case.
