Muskogee Police Department suspends officers following investigation into pepper-spray incident

MUSKOGEE, Okla.--- The Muskogee Police Department has suspended three officers for their involvement in thepepper-spraying of an 84-year-old woman on Aug. 7. 

Muskogee Police Chief Rex Eskridge said in an effort to show transparency, the FBI was asked to conduct an investigation into the incident. 

Eskridge says after a complete investigation, three officers have been suspended without pay, and one supervisor has been reprimanded. 

One officer was suspended for inappropriately deploying their taser, another was suspended for making appropriate comments, and a third was suspended for failing to decontaminate the woman and provide medical attention. 

Eskridge says after reviewing the incident, the  department will make a number of policy changes to ensure supervisors can do their best to handle similar situations. 

Eskridge also the department is working to with a specialized training group to receive to tactical communications training for all officers.
