MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The atheist group denied the chance to make a donation to a local charity due to their beliefs has raised over $28,000 in donations.

According to the group’s most recent post, they plan to give all but $5,000 to another group, Camp Quest Oklahoma.

The leftover $5,000 will be donated anonymously to the Murrow Indian Children’s Home. If denied again, the group wrote, they will donate the money to a local church “who will then donate it to them [the Murrow Indian Children’s Home].”

“We've had support from churches all over this nation today and I'm sure that one of them would be glad to donate the money to Murrow and I trust that they will,” says the post. “Whether the Murrow Home likes it or not, they are getting $5,000 for those children from all of this. Keli and I would like to thank everyone for their donations and support.”

The GoFundMe account was created by the Muskogee Atheist Community after the Murrow Indian Children’s Home returned a $100 donation in the group’s name. Not long after the donation was made, the atheist group was contacted again.

"She [Murrow Indian Children’s Home representative] called my desk phone at work and told me that they would not be accepting our donation because it would go against everything they believe in," Muskogee Atheist Community co-founder Matt Wilbourn said.

The Murrow Indian Children’s Home sent a statement regarding the incident citing that “Biblical principles”stopped them from accepting the donation.
