Moore tornado: Nurse finds cochlear implant needed for 5-year-old Jayde Scholl second surgery

NORMAN, Okla. - A 5-year-old Tulsa girl was able to have surgery Friday after the implant she needed was found in the rubble of the Moore Medical Center.

Jayde Scholl was slated to have surgery Monday for her second implant but a schedule change kept her from being in Moore when the EF-5 tornado struck the hospital.

Her cochlear implant however was still in the path of the storm.

"Well, her device is somewhere between Dallas and Kansas. I have no idea. I don't know what happens when a tornado takes the device away," Jayde's mom recalled telling her husband Eric who wondered what they would do now.

But like many stories coming out of Moore, this one too has a happy ending.

Nurse Sherry Raper found the computer-sized box holding Jayde's implant after searching through the rubble.

And with the discovery, Jayde had surgery at the Norman Healthplex Friday morning.
