TULSA - A Tulsa County mother is behind bars for allegedly abusing her young son with broken glass.
According to the arrest report, sheriff's deputies responded to a Tulsa hospital Sunday in reference to an abuse claim involving a 5-year-old boy.
The child was brought to the emergency room by his mother with two deep cuts to the right and left leg.
According to the report, hospital employees reported the alleged abuse after 24-year-old Alicia Croney brought her 5-year-old son in with a deep cut to the upper right knee and a minor cut to the inner left thigh. The knee injury will require surgery.
According to the report, authorities were called when Croney's explanation for the injuries led hospital employees to believe the child had been abused.
Upon arrival at the hospital, the deputy spoke with Croney, who said a glass jar had fallen from her fridge and busted on the kitchen floor. Croney said she and her son were cleaning the broken glass while her other son was playing XBOX in another room, which he wasn't supposed to be doing.
Croney said the family dog grabbed a piece of the glass and ran off with it. Croney said she chased the dog around the house and retrieved the glass when she noticed her son was still playing XBOX.
According to the report, Croney said she went into the kitchen and grabbed a Doritos bag from the trash can to spank her son with it. Croney said she hit her son in the legs with the bag only once and very lightly, but he screamed and she saw blood coming from both of his legs.
Croney said she grabbed cloths and tried to stop the bleeding, but when it wouldn't stop she grabbed both of her sons and went to the hospital. On the way to the hospital, Croney said she dropped her uninjured son off at a neighbor's house.
According to the report, Croney said she looked inside the Doritos bag and found glass from the broken jar but she didn't know it had anything in it when she grabbed it to spank her son.
Croney was arrested Sunday evening and booked into the Tulsa County Jail on one complaint of child abuse. She's being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.
