City of McAlester awarded $3.35 million in damages in embezzlement case

MCALESTER, Okla. (AP) - A Pittsburg county jury has awarded the city of McAlester $3.35 million in damages following a ruling against a former city manager.

Federal investigators found that former City Manager Randy Green sold vacation and sick leave time he was not entitled to back to the city. Green was also accused of transferring city bond money to other accounts.

In 2006, Green was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison after embezzling from the city.

Green is receiving a monthly pension of $3,700 from the city of McAlester, and the jury determined he is not entitled to severance pay.
