SAPULPA, Okla. - A massive fire continues to burn near Sapulpa Thursday night, threatening homes in the area.
Several agencies responded to the large grass fire, which burned near South 33rd West Avenue,
Firefighters say that the blaze would seem contained but the shifting winds kept them from saying it was under control.
Some residents say they were fearful for their homes after the flames came dangerously close.
“Instant anxiety because you know I mean there's nothing I can do but my whole family lives there," said Rachel Williams, a resident in the area.
Residents say they believe the fire began with neighbors burning garbage. No official cause has been given by investigators.
Local fire crews say they are thankful no structures were damaged throughout the day.
“Guys did an awesome job the structure right here of this mobile home I don't know how they did it I would've thought that it would've gone," said City of Sapulpa Fire Chief David Taylor.
