Marlow man, 83, found dead in pond on property

MARLOW, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities in Stephens County say an 83-year-old Marlow man died after he fell into an icy pond on his property.

Sheriff Wayne McKinney says Chelsey Turner was found dead Friday evening on his land in northeastern Stephens County. McKinney tells the Duncan Banner that Turner was trying to break the ice on the pond for his cattle when he slipped on the muddy bank and fell into the water.

The sheriff says Turner was unable to pull himself out of the pond. A relative found Turner waist-deep in the water.

McKinney says the medical examiner will perform an autopsy but authorities don't believe Turner drowned. The sheriff says it's likely Turner died from hypothermia or a stress-induced heart attack.
