Man hit, killed by two cars on Peoria near 48th Street early Friday

TULSA - A man was killed after being ran over by two cars in midtown Tulsa early Friday.

Tulsa police say a man was walking across the street near 48th Street and Peoria Avenue around 1 a .m. and might have walked right into the path of an oncoming car.

Officers say the driver of the first car, an 18-year-old girl, hit the man and left the scene.  A second car then hit the man and dragged him further down the road.

Officers say the second driver could not see the victim while he was lying in the street.

Investigators do not believe alcohol was involved with either driver.

The victim's identity has not been released.

They say the first girl that left the scene was likely scared.

"She drove straight home, we believe that she was just freaked out about what just took place, told her dad, her dad immediately called police, while this was taking place, the gentlemen was laying in the road," Tulsa Police Cpl. Jarrod Hart said.

Police say they do not believe the accident was the teen's fault, she may be charged with leaving the scene of a fatality accident.

Tulsa ranks in the top 25 most dangerous cities for pedestrians crossing the street.

The federal government offered the top 25 cities an opportunity to compete for a $2 million grant in August.

The state turned down the opportunity.
