WAGONER COUNTY, Okla. -- The body of a 24-year-old man was recovered from Bixhoma Lake early Monday morning.
Wagoner County Emergency Management tells 2NEWS the victim was pulled from the water just before 3 a.m.
Officials at the scene said the man, identified by Bixby police as Jacob Mefford, was swimming with a friend Sunday night and went underwater around 9 p.m.
Police say Mefford jumped into the water from a fixed structure and never resurfaced.
Crews from the Bixby Fire Department, Wagoner County EM, Creek Nation Light Horse Police and the Red Cross were called to assist with the search.
Mefford's body was recovered around 2:30 a.m. The medical examiner's office has taken custody of Mefford's body.
Bixhoma Lake, located about eight miles southeast of Bixby, is a no-swim lake that allows boating and fishing only. A permit is required for both.
