Jury selection for 2nd trial set to begin in Neal Sweeney murder-for-hire case

TULSA - One of the men accused of killing a prominent Tulsa businessman is heading for trial Monday.

Jury selection begins for Fred Shields, one of five men charged in the murder of Neal Sweeney.

Prosecutors say Mohammed Aziz hired hitman Terrico Bethel to kill Sweeney at his office in September 2008.

Aziz, who made a deal with prosecutors in exchange for his testimony against his co-conspirators, is awaiting sentencing.

Bethel was sentenced to life in prison during his trial in August.

Alonzo Johnson and Allen Shields were also charged in the murder.

Allen Shields committed suicide last year during a standoff with police.

Johnson is awaiting trial.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin for Shields around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
