Threat of winter weather cancels Jenks 'Lights On' celebration

JENKS, Okla. - The "Lights On" celebration in Jenks was canceled Thursday evening, due to the threat of winter weather across parts of Green Country.

Business owners in downtown Jenks refer to the annual celebration as the kickoff to the holiday shopping season.

"It was a disappointment that it was canceled," said Sherry Bonner, owner of The Pink Lily.

The event was supposed to have food trucks, carriage rides and Santa pictures available.

While the lights on Main Street were turned on, the rest of the events did not happen.

Only a handful of people roamed the area Thursday night.

"I think it's going to effect my business tonight," said Bonner.

Despite the "Lights On" event's cancellation, the businesswoman is confident the rest of the shopping season will go smoothly.

"You have just got to preserve, go on and it'll be great," she said.

There are more festivities planned for downtown Jenks this weekend, like the annual holiday parade, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
