City of Jenks honors fallen soldier, Dylan J. Johnson, by dedicating bridge at Main Street, Hwy 75

A Green Country bridge was dedicated Thursday to honor a local fallen soldier.

The City of Jenks honored the memory of Pfc. Dylan J. Johnson by name naming a bridge, located on Main Street over Highway 74, in his memory.

Thursday a ceremony was held in Jenks.

Johnson was killed in combat in Iraq June 26, 2011. He was 20 years old.

Johnson's father says he hopes the bridge reminds drivers of other soldiers fighting for their freedom.

"Although the bridge is named after him when his friends drive by and family I'd like for them to think of not only him, but Sgt. Russell Proctor who was also killed on that day, and all the other lost, fallen soldiers that we've had in Oklahoma," said Jeff Johnson.

"It's a great honor, and it's a tribute from the State of Oklahoma to honor my son this way."

Nov. 7 would have been Specialist Dylan Johnson's 23rd birthday.

"I'm proud of him," Jeff Johnson said. "I'm saddened by what happened, but I'm actually proud of his accomplishments."
