James Maxwell, inmate serving time for assaulting officer, escapes from Vinita correctional facility

TULSA - Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Northeast Oklahoma Correctional Center in Vinita.

James Maxwell, 49, was last seen around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the facility, where he's serving time for assaulting a police officer.

Maxwell is described as 6 feet 2 inches, 235 pounds, brown hair and brown eyes. He has a number of tattoos, including snakes, dragons and swastikas.

Police say he has Tulsa ties and could possibly be in the Tulsa area.
