SEQUOYAH COUNTY, Okla. - Sallisaw residents are breathing a sigh of relief after hazardous material crews deemed a chemical spill outside the Sequoyah County Jail non-hazardous Thursday.
Deputies say a transport company was in the process of delivering beds to the jail when an officer noticed a glaze-like liquid coming out of the truck's back doors.
More than 100 inmates were quickly moved out of the facility as Tulsa hazmat crews worked to clean the spill. The liquid, which has yet to be identified, was ruled non-hazardous Thursday afternoon.
The inmates have since been transported back into the jail and the court, located near the jail, has resumed normal activities.
Blocks surrounding the courthouse were blocked off until about 3 p.m.
