2NEWS Investigation: Dusten Brown, father of 'Baby Veronica', owed $7,000 in back child support

Right now, Dusten Brown is with his biological daughter, Veronica, despite a South Carolina Supreme Court ruling that the child is supposed to go back to her adoptive parents in South Carolina.

2NEWS has learned Brown also has another daughter with a different woman.

The 10-year-old's mother, Rachael, and Dusten Brown were married in 2001. In 2005, Brown was ordered to start paying child support of $253 a month to Rachael.

According to documents obtained by the 2NEWS Investigators, Dusten Brown got behind on child support, owing more than $7,000 two and a half years later.

In those same documents, the court found Brown in contempt for not paying up.

The couple's divorce was finalized in 2008.

It appears the situation has improved over time.

In September 2010, according to court documents obtained by 2NEWS, both Rachael and Dusten had, "Come to an agreement for (the) defendant to pay (the) custodial parent directly. Case to be closed for child support."

The 2NEWS Investigators contacted the Oklahoma Department of Human Services to find out if Brown had paid the $7,000 owed. The agency could not release any specifics but a DHS spokesperson did say, "It would be extremely unusual for a child support case that has gone to court in the past few years not to include a payment plan."

The spokesperson went on to say, however, "Mr. Brown's order shows no payment plan for past due support."

We did reach out to Dusten Brown's attorney. He declined to comment due to the ongoing litigation.

Efforts to contact Rachael weren't successful.
