Injured Tulane player continues path to recovery with therapy sessions

TULSA - A Tulane University athletics official released an update Wednesday on their football player who was injured last weekend during a game against the University of Tulsa.

Devon Walker suffered a fracture to his spine during a helmet-to-helmet collision with a teammate just before halftime in Saturday's game at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Walker has since undergone surgery to stabilize the fracture.  Following the procedure Walker was said to be alert and responsive.

A Tulane physician said over the weekend it could be days before the extent of Walker's injuries is known.

Roger Dunaway, assistant athletics director for athletics communication at Tulane, said Wednesday Walker had undergone a full day of therapy with periods of rest.

Dunaway said the Saint Francis staff "continues to deliver outstanding care.

Dunaway added "the positive impact of community" from Tulane and Tulsa "is felt every moment."

Early this week, funds were created to help Walker and his family with his recovery.

Donations also can be made to The College Football Assistance Fund.

Tulane University has also created a website for people to send Walker and his family their wishes and follow his recovery.
