Man arrested after teacher hit and killed by car

HENRYETTA, Okla. - Authorities in Okmulgee County are investigating the death of a woman after she was run over by a vehicle.

The incident happened Sunday night at a home near Henryetta. First responders pronounced the victim, Mary Beth Kafer, dead on the scene.

Investigators say Michael Kafer was behind the wheel of the vehicle that hit and killed her.

Deputies believe a family feud led to Kafer's death.

Kafer was arrested for manslaughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and booked into the Okmulgee County Jail.

Mary Beth Kafer was a teacher at Glenpool Public Schools.  She taught there for 26 years.  A note was sent home Monday alerting parents about her death.  Then Tuesday, grief counselors were on hand for students and teachers.

The school released the following statement:

Our thoughts are with Mrs. Kafer's family, especially her children, all of whom graduated from our school.  The family has many friends and support from this school.  Mrs. Kafer will be missed.
