Tulsa's students set off on foot for International Walk to School Day

TULSA - Hundreds of Tulsa kids who may normally ride to school will walk Wednesday.

Joining thousands of other students across the country for International Walk to School Day, Tulsa's students set off on foot for their schools across the area.

Organizers, including the Safe Kids Coalition, hope to promote two things:  Healthy living and safety.

About 250,000 children across the country are taking part.

The Safe Kids Coalition reports traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for children ages 3 to 14.

Nationwide, 61 kids are seriously injured every school day while walking to or from school.

Tulsa police want motorists to always be on the lookout for children, especially near school zones, because they don't always use the crosswalks.
