CHECOTAH -- This weekend, Oklahomans are gathering in Checotah for Civil War reenactment – The Battle of Honey Springs.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the battle which was fought July 17, 1863. Organizers of the 2013 honey Springs Battle Reenactment say this event was the most important engagement of the Civil War in Indiana Territory.
The actual battle was held on the 1,100 acre site where about 9,000 men were involved.
The 2013 Honey Sprigs Battlefield Reenactment begins at 1 p.m. and will include live history programs, battles, infantry, Calvary, tours of the camps and more.
The event takes place at 1863 Honey Springs Battlefield Road in Checotah.
