Hiring Our Heroes: Job fair for veterans

TULSA - More than 80 companies are at Central Park Hall at Expo Square Monday as part of a nationwide effort to find jobs for unemployed veterans and their spouses.

Hiring Our Heroes is led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.  The chamber has been holding job fairs across the country.  So far they have helped more than 14 thousand veterans and military spouses find jobs.

"It actually helps to do the face-to-face meeting and understand what employers are looking for and how these actually do marry or cross walk to actual military experience," Denise Reid of the Tulsa Regional Chamber said.

Some of the employers who will be at the fair include companies from the aerospace industry, food services and the professional service sector.  Veterans will also be able to attend a workshop to help them put together resumes.

Organizers say the Hiring our Heroes Job Fair helps the 500,000 unemployed veterans bridge the gap between the military world and the civilian world.

The fair lasts until 2 p.m.  Central Park Hall is located at 4503 E. 21st St., near 21st and Yale.
