Green Country leaders embrace American Airlines, US Airways merger

TULSA - Tulsa leaders are rolling out the red carpet for US Airways.

The airline announced an $11 billion merger with American Airlines Thursday.

A day later, the Tulsa Regional Chamber joined city officials to announce their support for what is now the world's largest airline.

Green Country leaders welcome the merger, saying it could've been disastrous for the region's economy had the merger not occurred.

Leaders were all smiles Friday as they shook hands with the vice president of the American Airlines maintenance base in Tulsa.  They voiced excitement and support to protect more than 6,400 local jobs, and they say every community in the region will benefit from the merger.

A bankruptcy court must approve the deal before it becomes final.
