Saturday morning, hundreds of children walked away from The Landing Community Church in Glenpool feeling a little more prepared to head back to school.
The Landing and the South County Outreach Center sponsored its sixth annual Back-to-School Bash.
"It's our opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ and give the kids a great big hug before the school year happens," said Joe Jones, pastor of The Landing community Church.
The event includes free immunizations, haircuts, backpacks and school supplies for area students and depends of dozens of volunteers.
"Our church, The Landing, really gets behind it and some of the people in the community as well,' Jones said. "It takes a group effort."
Jones said about 260 backpacks were given away in the first 40 minutes of the Back-to-School Bash. About 400 total were distributed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"This is truly a dream for us to be involved in the community to help in any way that we can. And when everyone puts their energies together… it's awesome to watch it all come together and see everyone's faces light up."
The event was open to not only Glenpool residents, but surrounding communities including Keifer, Mounds and Sapulpa.
