TULSA - Former Tulsa City Council member Roscoe Turner has died, a current member of the council confirmed Tuesday.
Turner was 81.
A lifelong Tulsan, Turner was twice elected to serve as District 3 City Councilor, from 1998 to 2002 and 2004 to 2008. He also worked for the City of Tulsa for 21 years as a boiler inspector.
Turner graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1949 and attended Tennessee State University from 1949 to 1951, where he played collegiate football.
In a statement late Tuesday night, Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett spoke about Turner's love of the city.
"Former Tulsa City Councilor Roscoe Turner was very passionate about representing his community and was certainly not a quitter," Bartlett said. "Winning his council seat many times, the former councilor was straight forward and vocal about his opinions and his love of his community and city was very obvious."
