Around midnight, Tulsa firefighters rescued a woman and cat in an apartment fire at Savanna Landing off 60th Street and Peoria.

Overall, 18 people were without homes after the fire that engulfed eight units.

When crews arrived, they found the woman and a cat that she described as her "baby" trapped in a balcony as the building was engulfed in flames.

A witness told 2 Works for You it was a scary sight to see, but fortunately, firefighters acted quickly and used a ladder to bring them to safety.

More than five units were destroyed by the fire, and many have fire, smoke and water damage.

It took crews nearly half and hour to put out the flames.

The American Red Cross is setting up a shelter at the apartment complex and helping the tenants displaced with food and water.

The Tulsa Fire Department says they believe the cause of the fire was a small child playing with a lighter.
