UPDATE: Man shot by OHP trooper in Okmulgee County was armed with a handgun

OKMULGEE COUNTY, Okla. - A man is dead in a late night officer-involved shooting that took place after a water rescue in Okmulgee County.

Captain Paul Timmons told 2NEWS Nehemiah Fischer, 35, had a handgun on his person when he was shot by a Trooper during an altercation near Hectorville Road and Bixby Road.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers say they received a call around 9:30 p.m. about a car stranded in high water. Troopers were able to convince the two people inside the car to get out, but it led to an argument and a physical confrontation.

That’s when one of the officers fired his weapon, according to troopers.

Brandon Fischer, 40, was arrested and booked into the Okmulgee County Jail.
