OWASSO, Okla. - An Oklahoma soldier who gave his life last year in Afghanistan is being honored this week before the one-year anniversary of his death.
Army Spc. Christopher D. Horton was killed in action Sept. 9, 2011 while assigned to the Oklahoma National Guard's 45th Brigade Combat Team.
A section of U.S. Highway 169 from 106th Street North to 116th Street North is being designated as the "Specialist Christopher D. Horton Memorial Highway."
Sen. Rick Brinkley and Rep. David Derby authored Senate Bill 1320, which approved the designation.
The two will be joined at the ceremony by County Commissioner John Smaligo, Owasso Mayor Doug Bonebrake, members of the Horton family and many other officials.
The ceremony will be held adjacent to Walgreens at 11605 N. 135th E. Ave. at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
