TULSA – A local high school student is recovering after sustaining serious injuries on campus, say Tulsa Public Schools.

TPS says that two high school students were in the central courtyard at Edison Preparatory School where several concrete pillars are located. The students were using a portable hammock, stringing it between two columns. When one student got off the hammock, the concrete pillar collapsed on the other student still inside the hammock.

The student, who is a senior, was seriously injured and still being treated at a nearby hospital, according to TPS.

A structural engineer was called to the school to ensure that the pillars are safe and if they are not, TPS says it will be fixed.
