Downtown Tulsa's first grocery store opens to customers

TULSA - Downtown Tulsa's first grocery store is already proving to a be a hit with area shoppers.

Folks Urban Market and Pantry, located at 305 E. Archer, opened its doors for the first time Friday evening.

Dozens of customers were the first to check out the store's selection of locally made bread and coffee, as well as the eggs, meat and produce grown by area farmers.

"We're just trying to give Tulsa something different and give Tulsa something they can hopefully be proud of," said Shawn Zenthoefer, the store's owner.

Many of the first customers live in, or near, downtown and they believe this is exactly what the Brady District needed.

"It's really what we've been looking for to come in to downtown," said Brook Cash. "I love it."

For years, many thought the store would open as the long-rumored Archer Market.

Zenthoefer said she went from being a silent partner, on that project, to the active partner in the current store.

"With the help of my husband and all of my friends, we made it happen," she said.

Folks Urban Market and Pantry will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., on weekdays. On weekends, the store will welcome business from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
