TULSA - A downtown Tulsa homeless mission is asking for thousands of turkeys for the centerpiece of its Thanksgiving food baskets.
John 3:16 , a organization providing food, shelter and clothing to those in need, is 3,000 frozen turkeys short of its goal of 5,000.
"Time is of the essence and we are asking the caring people of Tulsa and surrounding communities to help make a Thanksgiving meal possible for thousands of needy families and homeless people," said John 3:16 president Steve Whitaker.
The mission will distribute baskets from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. next Monday through Wednesday at its Family & Youth Center at 2027 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
A photo ID and proof of residency are required to receive a basket. No ID or proof of residency is required for homeless guests eating at the overnight shelter.
