Deputy busts 2 suspects during traffic stop for counterfeit money, equipment to print fake currency

TULSA COUNTY - Two people were arrested early Wednesday morning with "an impressive amount of counterfeit currency."

According to the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, a traffic stop around 12:30 a.m. resulted in the arrests of Robert Newsom and Dustin Hinton for 37 counts each of possession of counterfeit currency.

Major Shannon Clark said in a press release the suspects not only had the counterfeit currency but also the equipment necessary to make counterfeit bills.

It's unclear at this time where the currency was passed.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office is working with the Secret Service on the investigation.

Newsom was jailed on 37 counts of possession of counterfeit currency after a prior felony conviction in addition to an overdue taxes complaint.  His bond is $74,200.

Hinton was jailed on 37 counts of possession of counterfeit currency.  His bond is $37,000.
