Coweta woman found guilty of husband's murder

WAGONER COUNTY, Okla. - A Coweta woman charged in connection with her husband's shooting death was found guilty Tuesday evening.

Patricia Burney was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Arthur Burney.  He was found dead, shot once in the head, in a barn near the couple's home Feb. 18, 2011.

Burney and her teenage daughter were accused of hiring her daughter's boyfriend, Michael Richardson, to shoot and kill the husband.

According to court documents, Burney offered to pay Richardson $6,000.

Wagoner County District Attorney Brian Kuester said a jury convicted Burney of first-degree murder around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Richardson testified against Burney during her trial.  Kuester says the DA's office may work out a deal with Richardson for his cooperation.

Burney's daughter was prosecuted as a juvenile.  She is currently serving time in a juvenile facility.

The jury recommended Burney serve life in prison.
