County commissioners extend Tulsa County burn ban

TULSA - Tulsa County Commissioners met Monday morning to discuss the extension of the countywide burn ban.

Emergency management officials have surveyed area fire departments over the past several days, and the results, along with the weather forecast, determined that conditions were appropriate for a burn ban, according to the guidelines for extreme fire dangers set out in state law.

Commissioners have extended the burn ban until July 23. At that time, an additional burn ban could be considered.

Under the ban, all outdoor burning is prohibited, including controlled burns and bonfires.

The burn ban does allow exceptions for outdoor grilling with electric or gas grills with the stipulation that all outdoor grilling must be done over gravel, concrete or another non-flammable surface. In addition, all operating grills should be attended by an adult who has direct access to a water hose.

Tulsa County is just one of more than 20 Oklahoma counties under a burn ban. To view a complete list, visit the Oklahoma Forestry Service at .
