Convicted Muskogee mall shooter sentenced to life in prison

MUSKOGEE, Okla. - The man convicted in the Muskogee Mall shooting two years ago was handed down a life sentence Wednesday.

In July, a jury found Dondray Fowler guilty of shooting and killing 17-year-old Jerrod Reed, a rival gang member.

Fowler also injured several others when he opened fire at Arrowhead Mall in 2010.

The jury recommended life in prison for the murder and the judge agreed.

In addition to the life sentence for his first-degree murder conviction, Fowler was given 30 years for multiple assault and battery with a deadly weapon convictions for the bystanders who were injured.

The sentences are to be served consecutively.

"I don't think I've ever seen a case where there has been more of a disregard for so many people, who were minding their business and didn't have anything to do with (Fowler)," said Judge Norman Thygesen. "I've never seen that kind of disregard for human life."

Fowler's attorneys say they're planning an appeal.
