Community leaders discuss ways to keep children safer near the site of Wednesday's deadly accident

TULSA - Community leaders will return to the site of Wednesday's horrific accident that killed a 7-year-old boy.

Elijah Rivers was hit by a car and killed while walking to catch the bus Wednesday morning.

Police tell 2NEWS he and a 12-year-old were crossing the street near Virgin and North Harvard.

It's not a school zone and there aren't any crosswalks.
At 8:30 a.m. Thursday, city leaders and traffic experts gathered there to determine the best way to make the area safer for school children.
Elijah's father is hoping they can find a solution.

"I just hope people would be more aware," said Tshaka Rivers. "I'm not taking blame on anyone. I wish drivers would be more aware. Especially when there are schools nearby, even though this wasn't a school zone."
A makeshift memorial has formed at the street corner where neighbors have been laying flowers in Elijah's memory since the accident.
