Collinsville grass fire being investigated as possible arson; nearly 400 acres burned overnight

COLLINSVILLE, Okla. - Investigators are looking into the possibility a grass fire overnight near Collinsville may have been intentionally started.

Collinsville Rural Fire Department Chief Jimmy Wilson says between 300 and 400 acres burned between 146th and 156th streets near the QuikTrip at the junction of Highways 75 and 20.

Wilson says the fire appears to have been set intentionally and the investigation is ongoing.

Gusting winds fueled the fire, threatening homes and prompting residents to evacuate.

Multiple departments responded whne the fire started around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.  It wasn't contained until around 2 a.m.

Collinsville city and rural fire agencies responded, along with Skiatook BIA and Northwest departments.

Law enforcement blocked the 146th Street exit off U.S. Highway 75 during the fire fight and at one point the fire jumped the highway.

Fire officials said everyone has been allowed to return to their homes and no one was injured.
