Claremore mayor, former police chief Michael 'Mickey' Perry suffered heart attack, died Monday night

CLAREMORE -- The City of Claremore announced Tuesday morning that Mayor Michael (Mickey) Perry died Dec. 16.

Perry was present for a city council meeting Monday evening but suffered a heart attack later that night and passed away at Claremore Hillcrest Hospital after 11 p.m., the city said in a statement.

Perry was elected to office in April 2011. Prior to being mayor, he was a Claremore’s Chief of Police. He retired from that position in January 2011.

Recently, Perry had been inducted into the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Hall of Fame and was named the Claremore Daily Progress’s Progressive Citizen of the Year for 2012.

Perry is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Jennifer Lewis and husband Randy, and four grandchildren.
