CLAREMORE, Okla. -- A fire at Claremore's water treatment plant Monday shut down the facility, prompting the city to ask citizens to conserve water.

The city of Claremore issued a statement via Facebook just after 9:30 Monday night. According to the post, no one was injured and the fire was contained to a grassy area.

Underground wiring was reportedly damaged in the blaze.

The city requested residents "shut off all automatic sprinkler systems, refrain from outdoor watering or washing vehicles, unnecessary dish washing or laundry or any other non-essential water use" until repairs are made.
