CLAREMORE, Okla. - Hundreds of noodlers are looking for their next big catch this weekend in Green Country.
The Battle of the Big Cats Tournament kicked off Friday. It's the first competition of its kind in eastern Oklahoma. Up for grabs are $10,000 in prizes.
Noodling is a style of fishing in which fishermen use their bare hands as bait.
Organizer Kaleb Summers says the sport has grown in popularity with several recent TV shows.
"I think it's really woke a lot of people up here in Oklahoma itself," said Summers. "People that really didn't know this sport was going on right around their ears and so people are really starting to get on board."
The noodlers will weigh their catches at the Claremore Expo Center at 4000 S. Veterans Parkway Saturday. There are activities through the day, including demonstrations and live music.
