TULSA - Child crisis detectives are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy.
Paramedics were called to a home near 67th and Lewis before 8:30 a.m. Monday for a child who wasn't breathing.
Tulsa police spokesman Officer Leland Ashley says the toddler's mother asked a neighbor to drive her and the child to the hospital before the ambulance arrived.
Ashley says while they were driving to the hospital they stopped another ambulance near 61st and Harvard with a patient already on board. Paramedics treated the child until the original ambulance arrived.
The toddler, identified as Xavier Wade, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Monday Wade had been ill but also had bruising on his body.
The cause of death is undetermined pending the medical examiner's report.
