CATOOSA, Okla. – Bomb technicians are still trying to determine why a man was driving around with a seven-inch pipe bomb in his car.

The Tulsa Bomb Squad was called to assist Catoosa police after they responded to reports of suspicious activity in a vehicle parked near a church at Elm and Delaware.

Catoosa police say the bomb squad safely detonated the device around 4 a.m. and sent it to a lab to be evaluated.

A man, Christopher Swartwout, 39, found inside the vehicle was arrested on complaint of possession of explosive device as well as various drug charges. Catoosa police say the woman, Brittany Stinnett, 26, believed to be involved in the initial call was also arrested on drug related complaints after police say they found crystal meth.

Swartwout said the device belonged to his friend who makes firecrackers, but when asked, Swartwout was unable to identify the man.
