BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - After snagging merchandise from a Broken Arrow Walmart, police say a woman fled the store, leaving a sleeping child in a shopping cart.
On Friday, an officer responded to the store near Kenosha and Aspen in regard to a petit larceny. A loss prevention employee reported a woman who hid several packages of socks and other items underneath a coat in the shopping cart.
According to the arrest report, the woman pushed the cart past the registers and the Walmart employee confronted her. She then grabbed her purse and coat and walked across the parking lot, leaving the child asleep in the bottom of the cart.
The employee provided police with a description of the suspect, who was later found standing at the corner of Kenosha and Aspen.
According to the report, the suspect identified herself as Jacqueline Washington and she gave the officer permission to search her purse and coat, where several packages of socks were found.
Washington was taken back to the store where the employee positively identified her as the suspect.
All the merchandise was recovered and returned to the store.
Meanwhile, the child's mother was contacted and she identified Washington as the child's aunt.
Washington was arrested for petit larceny and neglect. She was booked into the Tulsa County Jail on $27,500 bond.
