BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - The city of Broken Arrow prepares to start smoke testing its sewer system.
The test will help identify any leaking areas.
Problems arise when storm water starts draining into sewer lines.
The city says many of its pipes are more than 80 years old workers will look for smoke seeping out of any cracks in the system.
"The city has to treat our waste water so when rain water, which perfectly good clean water gets into the sewer lines that is also being sent to our treatment facilities and increasing our operational expenses," said Krista Flasch, city of Broken Arrow.
The testing must be done in a dry period so the dates are not yet set.
People in the affected areas will get written notification before it begins.
