Broken Arrow City Manager Thomas Moton resigns, last day scheduled for Aug. 15

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - Broken Arrow will soon be on the hunt for a new leader.

City Manager Thomas Moton has submitted his resignation, serving less than two years after taking the position.

City leaders approve Moton's resignation Monday at special meeting. City officials have appointed Russel Gale, director of Human Resources, as acting city manager.

Moton entered the role of city manager on November 6, 2012. His contract would have expired on November 6 of this year.

The council is also considering Moton's seven month severance package, which could top $106,000 to be paid by the end of August.

Before moving to Broken Arrow, Moton worked as the assistant city manager in Greenville, North Carolina. He moved to Oklahoma after Broken Arrow conducted a nationwide search for a city manager.

Moton's last day is set for Aug. 15.
